Arm Lift
GENERAL FEATURES OF THE OPERATION
Aging is a natural process characterized by a gradual loss of skin thickness and elasticity, which varies from person to person. Over time, the skin’s supportive structures weaken, and changes in the underlying fat, muscle, and bone tissues contribute to sagging and loss of firmness — particularly in areas such as the upper arms.
Normally, elastic fibers make up about 2–4% of the dermis, the inner layer of the skin. With age, this ratio decreases, leading to a noticeable reduction in skin elasticity. While genetic factors play a major role in how the skin ages, environmental influences such as sun exposure, weight fluctuations, and lifestyle also accelerate this process. As the skin and subcutaneous tissues atrophy, the pull of gravity causes the skin to droop downward.
When Is Liposuction Enough?
In some cases, sagging in the upper arms is primarily due to excess fat deposits rather than poor skin elasticity. For patients with good skin quality and minimal looseness, liposuction alone can provide excellent results. This procedure removes localized fat through suction, improving arm contour without the need for surgical incisions or skin removal.
When Is an Arm Lift Necessary?
However, when there is both excess fat and loose, hanging skin, liposuction alone is not sufficient. In such cases, an arm lift surgery (brachioplasty) is recommended. During this procedure, excess skin and fat are surgically removed, and the remaining tissue is tightened to achieve smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking arms. The result is a naturally toned arm contour that complements the overall body shape.
